Amazon is expected to unveil its first mobile smartphone product later today (18th June.)
Company that started out with books and soon moved into music, video, cloud computing and Kindle e-readers is hosting a launch event Wednesday in Seattle, and media reports indicate the product will be an Amazon phone -- perhaps one with multiple cameras that can produce 3-D photos.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal has reported that the US company AT&T will be the Amazon phone’s exclusive carrier, in an extension of deal that provides wireless service to Kindle tablets and e-readers. The report also says it is unlikely it will be available outside the US for some time.

18th International Book Fair in Krakow

Krakow baner en new

In 2013 Krakow was awarded the prestigious UNESCO City of Literature title as one of 7 such cities in the world and only the 2nd one located in a non-English speaking country. This makes Krakow the perfect location for an international publishing and readership event. The Book Fair in Krakow as of its 18th edition will be known as the International Book Fair in Krakow.

The International Book Fair in Krakow is a cyclical event dedicated to the publishing and bookshop sector - has been organized by Targi w Krakowie Ltd. in Krakow since 1997. The Fair, which falls into the category of readership promotion, is open to the general public. Exhibitors include: publishing houses, book warehouses, bookshops, cultural institutions, associations related to the Polish book market, distributors of electronic media dedicated to readers, printing companies and paper producers. In 2013 the event hosted 570 publishers (i.e. more than half of Polish publishing houses that issue several or more titles per year) and was attended by 40 000 book lovers. The International Book Fair in Krakow - the biggest event of this type in Poland - is an iconic event in the city, a promotion zone for good books, a venue for encounters, exchanges of thoughts and discussion.

Why Books Have Such A Distinctive Smell

Everyone’s familiar with the smell of old books, the weirdly intoxicating scent that haunts libraries and second-hand book stores. Similarly, who doesn’t enjoy riffling through the pages of a newly purchased book and breathing in the crisp aroma of new paper and freshly printed ink? As with all aromas, the origins can be traced back to a number of chemical constituents, so we can examine the processes and compounds that can contribute to both.

Let’s celebrate the World Book and Copyright Day all together!

World Book and Copyright Day is an annual event, celebrated all around the world to promote reading and the cultural aspects of books.
This year, a major event will take place on 23 April at UNESCO Headquarters to raise public awareness, especially among young people, about the publishing world.

Several activities undertaken by publishing professionals, artists and well-known institutions will familiarize young people with the traditional book and e-publishing techniques through practical workshops (typography, illustration, bookbinding, manga, etc.).

A selection of booksellers and publishing companies will also promote their books and share their passion for reading in organized booths.

To give an international dimension to the celebration, an interactive map featuring the events run by librarians, booksellers and publishers around the world will be produced.

Creative Clients?

Frustrated by stupid client criticism, Irish graphic designers Mark Shanley and Paddy Treacy decided to turn their “favorite worst feedback” into posters. The guys worked together on so-called “Sharp Suits” series with a team of other ad creatives, designers, animators, directors, illustrators and more, who must’ve all appreciated a chance to let out some of their exasperation in a creative way.
The series was exhibited at The Little Green Café, Bar and Gallery in November, giving a chance to purchase an A3 poster of your choice. The guys, however, received so many orders during a 5 day exhibition, that they’ve already stopped accepting them. All the thousands of euros they claim to have raised were donated to the Temple Street Children Hospital.
